Materials Evaluation Laboratory Services
The Materials Evaluation Laboratory is an in-house testing facility, established in 1960, to measure thermal properties of ceramic materials to aid Harrop engineers in designing kilns and dryers. At the request of many clients, we re-organized this group in 1970 to include a fee-based independent testing laboratory, conducting thermal tests of

ceramics, metals, polymers, and composite materials. Since then, we have serviced customers for one-time analyses, for multi-sample R&D projects, and for long-term QC programs. Ceramic engineers with extensive thermal testing experience staff our testing lab.

Toll Firing Services
In conjunction with our testing laboratory, which focuses on bench scale testing, Harrop offers a Toll Firing service to perform firing of large batches of parts or materials. Test firings for product development, interim production or market samples are performed with a thermal cycle established by the customer. Or, in the case of developing new compositions or products, Harrop offers consulting services in conjunction with the firing services to help the customer develop a proper thermal treatment. Toll firing can be done for quantities as small as a couple of pounds or a couple of pieces, or as large as thousands of pieces and several tons.
Harrop's 8,000 sq. ft. Toll Firing facility contains both electric and gas-fired periodic kilns in different sizes with temperature capabilities up to 1,700°C (3,100°F) and atmosphere control. The facility also contains a small continuous tape caster and an electric rotary kiln. Special process monitoring and product testing are, also, available Harrop services for inclusion into a customer's test program. Harrop welcomes the customer's participation and observance during testing.
